Rocking For The Weekend: The Rolling Stones

In May, The Rolling Stones released a remastered version of Exile On Main Street, my #2 favorite album of all time. For some reason, I don't have my grubby little hands on it yet, but the news made me revisit this spectacular example of blues, juke joint boogie-woogie, and preening cocksurety.

Exile was recorded in the basement of Keith Richards' French hideaway during what approximated an extended house party. Guests came and went and took time out from frolicking to lay down a track or two. It all came together as a shambling, off the cuff masterpiece.

"Happy" is one of the few Stones songs that Richards sings lead vocals on. It lives up to its name, exuding joy at every turn. Consequently, it's long been a live staple for the Stones, and I hope you enjoy it today. Happy Weekend!1

1. Even though I don't get a weekend this week. Or next week. Grr.

No weekend? What sort of hell on Earth do you live in, boy? :) Oh I forgot. Hollywood!

I was reading the other day that the cute guy who plays thingummy Arquette's husband in 'Medium' claims he was used as a drug mule by the Rolling Stones when he was 8, apparently Keith's idea of the perfect wedding gift to Mick and Bianca was a small child's-worth of cocaine.

Honestly! What's wrong with just giving a toaster or a gravy boat like everybody else, eh?

Have a good non-weekend.

Veggie: Indeed! Computer animated bunnies rest for no man.

Girl: Despite the horror of that story, I can't help but be amused at the fact that "small child" is the unit of measurement for cocaine.

Happy work-weekend! Yayy for you not resting after a long week. WHooooo. Ok, that's all the false cheer I can muster for one blog comment.

Working the weekend sucks. Sad face for you. :(

Don't be too jealous of my weekend off as I'm going to power wash my deck on Sunday (and no that's not a sex euphemism), so it's not exactly packed with excitement. Still, I guess dealgae-ing cement is better'n work. Marginally.

Huh huhuh. You said "cock".

Also, is it wrong that I now want to measure everything using the unit of "a small child's worth"

I've always liked this song and had no idea Keith sang it. He sounds an awful lot like Mick.

Tammy: Powerwashing the deck sounds lovely compared to what I did. However, I got a reprieve for Sunday :)

S&C: Not at all. I'm starting to do it myself.

red: I love Keith's craggy voice, especially now that he's all old. It has a Johnny Cash quality to it. Also, I'm buying you a capital "R" for your next birthday.

Its no longer the weekend, but I'm still diggin' your Rolling Stones post. The remastered 'Exile' has been playing non-stop at our house since it came out and I'm loving every minute of it.

Get it, you won't be sorry!

What's your favorite album of all time?

And I love the new song that's on the new release. I forget what it's called but it rocks.
