Rocking For The Weekend: Matthew Sweet

Welcome to a new feature at Words, Words, Words...Rocking For The Weekend! Every Friday I'll post a fun song I love that is perfect for flying out the door at 5pm on Friday (or 8pm if you're me) and cranking the stereo on the way home.

Well, maybe not every Friday. But at least until I am sick of it. (See "Seven Word Sunday" food posts.)

Today's song is "Girlfriend" by Matthew Sweet. It rocks. It's one of my ten favorite songs of all time, and the drum break is sick. Enjoy!

Definitely a feel-good Friday leaving work song.

Perfect! I can just imagine driving away from work by the ocean with the breeze in my hair to that song. You know, if we had an ocean... And a convertible.

I think Matthew Sweet is one of the most underrated performers out there. He's been around forever and he's fairly accessible yet never been a chart stormer. I actually really like that album he did with Susanna Hoffs a few years back.

I discovered this song while in college and it became a standard play on my radio show.

For some reason, every time I go to a CD store (or went to a CD store, I guess), I would never remember to look for some Matthew Sweet. I guess this just supports Vegetable Assassin's claims that he's one of the most underrated and underappreciated performers out there.

Good one. But "Sick of Myself" = best Matthew Sweet song ever.

I like this concept. Rocking for the Weekend. I also appreciate that you didn't cut off the g at the end of Rocking.

I've been meaning to start a new thing called Careoke Fridays, get it? Karaoke in your car, on video. But really I'm just looking for a way to work Phil Collins' Invisible Touch into my blog. That's a damn good song.

You're now back on my Google reader. Not sure how you got off of it.
